Graphic EQ

Inspired by Avid® Custom Graphic EQ (Eleven Rack)

It is a simplified 5-band graphic equalizer, faster than the 8-band G EQ designed for quick live interventions or general shaping.

GENERAL FUNCTION

Change the sound via 5 fixed bands.

Each band controls a large portion of the spectrum.

Ideal for:

  • quick fixes
  • adaptation to PA
  • overall tonal control

Less precise than parametric EQ, but very intuitive.

Control Parameters

FREQUENCY BANDS

Each band:

  • Typical range: −12 → +12 dB
  • Fixed frequencies (non-adjustable)
Low GaindB
  • Area: ~80–120 Hz

Function:

  • check the lows

Effect:

  • boost → more body
  • cut → less boom
Low Mid GaindB
  • Area: ~200–400 Hz

Function:

  • check the “mud”

Effect:

  • boost → warm but closed sound
  • cut → more cleaning
Mid GaindB
  • Area: ~500Hz – 1kHz

Function:

  • central averages

Effect:

  • boost → “nasal” presence
  • cut → more open sound
High Mid GaindB
  • Area: ~1.5 – 3 kHz

Function:

  • definition / intelligibility

Effect:

  • boost → clearer voice
  • cut → less aggressive
High GaindB
  • Area: ~5 – 10 kHz

Function:

  • high frequencies

Effect:

  • boost → brilliance / air
  • cut → less harsh
GaindB
  • Range: approximately −12 → +12 dB
  • Global EQ volume

Compensates for volume changes

Pro Tips

  • wide bands → less surgical interventions
  • excessive boosts → artificial sound
  • small movements are better (±2–4 dB)

Use for:

  • quick fix
  • not for extreme precision

Correct order:

  • size low-mid (clean)
  • add high-mid (definition)
  • adjust low/high for balance

Quick Reference

  • Low Gain: low
  • Low Mid Gain: low-mid / mud
  • Mid Gain: mediums
  • High Mid Gain: presence
  • High Gain: high
  • Gain: output volume
