Headrush Wah & Filter
Black Wah
Inspired by MXR® Cry Baby
Classic Wah modeled after analog pedals (Cry Baby/Vox style) controls a moving resonant filter via footswitch
GENERAL FUNCTION
Filter resonant band-pass.
The filter frequency changes depending on the pedal position
Produces the typical sound:
- “wah”
- vocal-like
- expressive
Used for:
- lead guitar
- funk rhythm
- vocal effects
Control Parameters
Pedals%
- Range: 0 – 100%
- Function: position of the wah pedal
Behavior:
- 0%: filter closed (dark)
- 50%: central location
- 100%: open filter (bright)
Controls the center frequency of the filter
Practical use:
- continuous movement → classic wah effect
- fixed position → static filter (creative EQ type)
Make UpdB
- Typical range: −12 → +12 dB
- Function: volume compensation
Because it's needed
The wah can:
- attenuate some frequencies
- change the perceived level
This parameter reports the correct volume
Use:
- dB → more presence in the mix
- − dB → check peaks
Pro Tips
- High pedal + high gain → can become harsh
- Pedal low → risk of sound being too closed
- Make Up too high → clipping
Trick:
- use wah in a fixed position to find frequency “sweet spots”.
- then automates the movement
Quick Reference
- Pedal (%): Wah position
- Make Up (dB): output volume
