Birch410
Headrush Impulse Responses

Birch410

Inspired by Ashdown® 4x10 (Bass Cab)

Interpretation:

  • Birch → cabinet in birch plywood
  • 410 → checkout 4x10” (four 10” speakers)

Sound character

This type of case is very particular:

  • low more controlled compared to 1x15
  • fast attack
  • averages present
  • higher notes more defined but not aggressive

Typical for:

  • funk
  • dynamic cleans
  • bass guitar
  • vintage rock
  • defined rhythm guitar

Recommended Parameters

Gain (dB)

Controls the IR level

Birch410 is “tighter” → less risk of mixing compared to 1x15

Examples:

  • Clean: -4 dB
  • Funk: -5 dB
  • Rock: -6 / -7 dB

Rule: Maintain headroom to preserve dynamics

HiCut (Hz)

Cuts high frequencies

Birch410 has more attack → watch out for the highs

Realistic range:

  • 5 kHz → 9 kHz

Examples:

  • Clean: 6 kHz
  • Funk: 6.5–7 kHz
  • Rock: 7–8 kHz

Rule: too high = “spiky” sound, too low = you lose definition

LoCut (Hz)

Cuts low frequencies

4x10 = tighter bass → you can use lower LoCut than 1x15

Realistic range:

  • 70Hz → 120Hz

Examples:

  • Clean: 80 Hz
  • Funk: 90 Hz
  • Rock: 100–110 Hz

Rule: Keeps punch without mud

Mix (%)

Blend IR / dry

Standard:

  • 100%

Creative:

  • 80–90% for parallel textures

Pro Tips

Great starting point:

  • Gain: -5 dB
  • HiCut: 6.5–7 kHz
  • LoCut: 90 Hz
  • Mixes: 100%

If the sound is:

  • too “thin” → lower LoCut
  • too “sharp” → lower HiCut
  • little punch → raise Gain slightly
