Headrush Impulse Responses
Tread212
Inspired by Mesa Boogie® 2x12
Typical interpretation:
- Tread → reference to Mesa/Boogie Dual/Triple Rectifier (“Treadplate”)
- 212 → checkout 2x12”
Sound character
This IR is designed for modern sounds:
- low tight and controlled
- slightly hollowed mids (modern voicing)
- high present but not excessive
- fast attack
Result: modern, aggressive, defined sound
Perfect for:
- modern metal
- hard rock
- djent
- precise rhythms
- high gain leads
Recommended Parameters
Gain (dB)
IR level
Modern IR → very precise → avoids saturation
Examples:
- Rock: -6 dB
- Metal: -8 dB
- Djent: -9 / -10 dB
Rule: more amp gain → less IR gain
HiCut (Hz)
Cuts high frequencies
Tread212 can get “fizzy” if too open
Realistic range:
- 5.5 kHz → 8.5 kHz
Examples:
- Rock: 6.5 kHz
- Metal: 7–7.5 kHz
- Djent: 7.5–8 kHz
Rule: Eliminate digital fizz without losing definition
LoCut (Hz)
Cuts low frequencies
fundamental parameter for tight sound
Realistic range:
- 90Hz → 150Hz
Examples:
- Rock: 100 Hz
- Metal: 120 Hz
- Djent: 130–150 Hz
Rule: more LoCut = more precision
Mix (%)
Blend IR / dry
Standard:
- 100%
Creative:
- 80–90% for ambient sounds
Pro Tips
Great starting point:
- Gain: -8 dB
- HiCut: 7 kHz
- LoCut: 120 Hz
- Mixes: 100%
If the sound is:
- too “fizzy” → lower HiCut
- too “muddy” → raise LoCut
- too compressed → lower Gain
- not very present → raise HiCut slightly
Tread212 is perfect:
with high gain amps (Rectifier, 5150, etc.) for precise recordings for palm mute rhythms in double track stereo
