Flathill 412 Angled (BR)
Inspired by Mesa Boogie® 4x12 Angled (Bottom-Right
4x12" Speaker
It is a 4x12 angled “British” cab (Marshall type) It is NOT a “Room” cab, therefore:
- has no integrated real environment (like Doc's Best Room) → the “Ambience” here is simulated/artificial, not a realistic second mic room
Controls
Gain (dB)
Mic volume
- ↑ = more output
- ↓ = more headroom
It does NOT change the character, only the level
Mic Dist (inch)
Mic-speaker distance.
- 0–1” → tight, aggressive (metal)
- 2–4” → balanced
- >5” → more air, less attack
on 4x12 it is CRITICAL:
too close = harsh
too far = loses punch
Mic Axis (On/Off)
- ON (on-axis) → center cone → highest, attack
- OFF (off-axis) → cone edge → darker
- on this cab -> ON = modern metal OFF = rock / vintage
Low (dB)
- negative → tight palm mute
- positive → more “thump”
typical:
- metal → -2 / -4
- rock → 0 / +2
High (dB)
- negative → less harsh
- positive → more presence
very important on 4x12:
SM57 often requires -1/-3 dB
Delay (ms)
Signal delay.
- Real use -> simulate double mic, correct phase
- 0 ms → standard
- 1–5 ms → slight gap
- 5 ms → comb effect
Ambience (Y/N)
- OFF → pure cab close mic
- ON → adds synthetic room
Amb Level (dB)
How much environment do you add.
- low → natural
- high → live effect
Amb Size (ms)
Simulated room size.
- 10–30 ms → small room
- 30–80 ms → study
- 80–150+ ms → hall
It's NOT as realistic as cab Room - it's more like early reflections + short reverb
Suggested Microphones
- SM57 → Marshall standard, aggressive mid
- MD421 (all variations) → more body and low-end
- SM7 (variants) → smoother, less harsh
- Rezio → modern, more hi-fi than 57
BEST MATCH on this cab: SM57 SM57 + MD421 (if layer) SM7 for lead
on this cab: perfect for removing harsh, ideal for classic rock
use:
clean on distorted cab
or blending
